Call to Worship

Leader:  Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord, give praise, O servants of the Lord, who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God!

People: Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing to his name, for it is pleasant!

Leader: You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord!

People: Blessed be the Lord from Zion, he who dwells in Jerusalem!

Trinity Hymnal #370 “Revive Thy Work, O Lord”

Revive thy work, O Lord,
thy mighty arm make bare;
speak with the voice that wakes the dead,
and make thy people hear.

Revive thy work, O Lord,
disturb this sleep of death;
quicken the smould'ring embers now
by thine almighty breath.

Revive thy work, O Lord,
create soul-thirst for thee;
and hung'ring for the Bread of Life
O may our spirits be.

Revive thy work, O Lord,
exalt thy precious name;
and, by the Holy Ghost, our love
for thee and thine inflame.

Revive thy work, O Lord,
give Pentecostal show'rs:
the glory shall be all thine own,
the blessing, Lord, be ours.

REFLECTION ON GOD’S LAW

Leader: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

People: This is the great and first commandment.

Leader: God spoke all these words, saying, "I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before me."

People: For although there may be so-called "gods" in heaven or on earth…yet for us there is one God.

Leader: You shall not make for yourself an idol.

People: What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God.

Leader: You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

People: Let your "yes" be yes and your "no" be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.

Leader:  Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

People: There remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.

SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF GRACE

Trinity Hymnal #559  “Father, I Know That All My Life”

Father, I know that all my life
is portioned out for me;
the changes that are sure to come,
I do not fear to see:
I ask thee for a present mind,
intent on pleasing thee.

I would not have the restless will
that hurries to and fro,
seeking for some great thing to do,
or secret thing to know;
I would be treated as a child,
and guided where I go.

I ask thee for the daily strength,
to none that ask denied,
a mind to blend with outward life,
while keeping at thy side,
content to fill a little space,
if thou be glorified.

In service which thy will appoints
there are no bonds for me;
my secret heart is taught the truth
that makes thy children free;
a life of self-renouncing love
is one of liberty.

Prayer of the Church

Psalm 73:1-10  “Yes, God Is Good to Israel”  (tune: Hymnal #570)

Yes, God is good to Israel,

To every one whose heart is pure.

But as for me, I nearly fell;

My footsteps were no longer sure.

For I was envious of the proud

And wicked ones with wealth endowed.

For in their death no pains they know;

Their strength is firm from day to day.

They share no part in others’ woe,

Nor plagued as other men are they.

They make their necklace arrogance,

And clothe themselves with violence.

Their eyes are bulging with excess;

Their hearts are full of things they seek.

They scoff; they threaten to oppress.

Disdainful words they proudly speak.

Their mouth the heights of heaven raids;

Their tongue around the world parades.

Their people therefore with them turn

To drink from streams that overflow.

“For how,” they say, “can God discern?”

And, “Does the Most High really know?”

Behold, ungodly men are these,

Who gain in wealth and live at ease.

PRAYER OF APPLICATION & THE LORD’S PRAYER

Trinity Hymnal #480 “Come, for the Feast Is Spread”

Come, for the feast is spread,
hark to the call:
come to the Living Bread
offered to all.
Come to his house of wine,
low on his breast recline,
all that he has is thine;
come, sinner, come.

Come where the fountain flows,
river of life;
healing for all thy woes,
doubting, and strife.
Millions have been supplied,
no one was e'er denied,
come to the crimson tide;
come, sinner, come.

Come to the throne of grace,
boldly draw near;
he who would win the race
must tarry here.
Whate'er thy want may be,
here is the grace for thee,
Jesus thine only plea;
come, Christian, come.

Song – “Christ, the Sure and Steady Anchor”

Christ the sure and steady anchor

In the fury of the storm

When the winds of doubt blow through me

And my sails have all been torn

Chorus 1: In the suffering in the sorrow

When my sinking hopes are few

I will hold fast to the anchor

It shall never be removed

Christ the sure and steady anchor

While the tempest rages on

When temptation claims the battle

And it seems the night has won

Chorus 2: Deeper still then goes the anchor

Though I justly stand accused

I will hold fast to the anchor

It shall never be removed

Christ the sure and steady anchor

Through the floods of unbelief

Hopeless somehow O my soul now

Lift your eyes to Calvary

Chorus 3: This my ballast of assurance

See His love forever proved

I will hold fast to the anchor

It shall never be removed

Christ the sure and steady anchor

As we face the wave of death

When these trials give way to glory

And we draw our final breath

Chorus 4:

We will cross that great horizon

Clouds behind and life secured

And the calm will be the better

For the storms that we endured

Chorus 5:

Christ the shore of our salvation

Ever faithful ever true

We will hold fast to the anchor

It shall never be removed
