Call to Worship

Leader: Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion, and to you shall vows be performed.

People: O you who hear prayer, to you shall all flesh come.

When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions.

Leader: Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts!

People: We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple!

Leader: By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness, O God of our salvation.

All: The hope of all the ends of the earth!

Trinity Hymnal #421 “Soul, Adorn Yourself with Gladness”

Soul, adorn yourself with gladness,
leave the gloomy haunts of sadness,
come into the daylight's splendor,
there with joy your praises render.
Bless the One whose grace unbounded
this amazing banquet founded;
he, though heav'nly, high, and holy,
deigns to dwell with you most lowly.

Hasten as a bride to meet him,
eagerly and gladly greet him.
There he stands already knocking;
quickly, now, your gate unlocking,
open wide the fast-closed portal,
saying to the Lord immortal:
"Come, and leave your loved one never;
dwell within my heart forever."

Now in faith I humbly ponder
over this surpassing wonder
that the bread of life is boundless
though the souls it feeds are countless;
with the choicest wine of heaven
Christ's own blood to us is given.
Oh, most glorious consolation,
pledge and seal of my salvation.

Jesus, source of lasting pleasure,
truest friend and dearest treasure,
peace beyond all understanding,
joy into all life expanding:
humbly now, I bow before you,
love incarnate, I adore you;
worthily let me receive you,
and, so favored, never leave you.

REFLECTION ON GOD’S LAW

Leader: Honor your father and your mother.

People: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right

Leader: You shall not murder.

People: Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him

Leader: You shall not commit adultery.

People: Everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart

Leader: You shall not steal.

People: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.  Do your work quietly and earn your own living

Leader: You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

People: Having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor

Leader: You shall not covet anything that is your neighbor's.

People: For the whole law is fulfilled in one word:  "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF GRACE John 1:29

Trinity Hymnal #649.  “More Love to Thee, O Christ”

More love to thee, O Christ, more love to thee!
Hear thou the prayer I make on bended knee;
this is my earnest plea,

Refrain:
more love, O Christ, to thee,
more love to thee,
more love to thee!

Once earthly joy I craved, sought peace and rest;
now thee alone I seek; give what is best:
this all my prayer shall be, [Refrain]

Let sorrow do its work, send grief and pain;
sweet are thy messengers, sweet their refrain,
when they can sing with me, [Refrain]

Then shall my latest breath whisper thy praise;
this be the parting cry my heart shall raise,
this still its prayer shall be, [Refrain]

Prayer of the Church

Trinity Hymnal #624 “Through All the Changing Scenes of Life”

Through all the changing scenes of life,
in trouble and in joy,
the praises of my God shall still
my heart and tongue employ.

Of his deliv'rance I will boast,
till all that are distressed
from my example comfort take,
and charm their griefs to rest.

O magnify the Lord with me,
with me exalt his name;
when in distress to him I called,
he to my rescue came.

The hosts of God encamp around
the dwellings of the just;
deliv'rance he affords to all
who on his succor trust.

O make but trial of his love;
experience will decide
how blest they are, and only they,
who in his truth confide.

Fear him, ye saints, and you will then
have nothing else to fear:
make you his service your delight,
he'll make your wants his care.

PRAYER OF APPLICATION & THE LORD’S PRAYER

Trinity Hymnal #252 “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”

When I survey the wondrous cross
on which the Prince of glory died,
my richest gain I count but loss,
and pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
save in the death of Christ my God:
all the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to his blood.

See, from his head, his hands, his feet,
sorrow and love flow mingled down:
did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
that were a present far too small;
love so amazing, so divine,
demands my soul, my life, my all.
