Written in the 1700's Newton shares his heart for the people of God and his love of God as he
writes on various topics regarding the Christian walk. At times exhorting and encouraging a renewed striving to live for Christ but always with love and a pastorial spirit, knowing that we are not yet prefect but we are already loved beyond our own understanding by the One who has called us.
Our goal is to grow in our love for each other as members of the household of God and to grow together in our understanding of God's person and the life He has called us to live. As we learn what it means to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord as His word permeates every area of our lives. The books we choose have the singular goal to help us grow in love and understanding our
God and how our lives reflect that knowledge in love and good deeds.
For this reason also, since the day we heard of it [their love in the Spirit vs. 7], we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father who qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light Col 1:9-12
Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together as is the habit of some, to encouraging one another all the more as you see the day drawing near.
